Domestic Policy

Most people are kind; yet, at the same time, all of us must work by the sweat of our brows to provide for ourselves and our families. The tension between these two basic facts of human nature frames the policy debates we have in this country, and has framed our existence since time immemorial. It is precisely what frames my bipartisan approach to politics: all of us, of any political stripe, are only doing right when we look after the needs of our fellow citizens and balance our best impulses with our most pressing needs.

We can and have done both, but it is the height of foolishness to pretend that we either know all the answers to the problems which face us, or that we can apply a solution and never have to worry about it again. Anybody who's ever even mowed a lawn or made a bed knows this.

Instead, accepting the constantly changing world in which we live, we will hold up the light of Liberty for one another, and draw our surety, our stability, our security from one another, certain that our fellow Americans will be there for us as we will be there for them. Together, in that light, we can and will fix the things which need fixing, build the things which need building, and do our part to guide the nation along a path we can be proud of, before we hand it off to the generations which will follow us.
